JOHN LEWIS

As the first John Lewis store ever to be built in Wales, this new 280,000 square foot store, their largest outside of London, is the flagship of the new St David’s Shopping Centre and with its striking design is a landmark building on The Hayes.

BLE’s partnership programme with John Lewis meant that we were called upon by Wates Retail to provide a comprehensive solution to the smoke and fire protection within the store. A series of smoke curtains to all floors around the atria were installed using the BLE-JLP detail required in all John Lewis stores which has been specifically designed for easy and efficient maintainability.

The aesthetically striking prow posed a unique smoke protection challenge. BLE, in conjunction with Ericsson Architects, Lateral Technologies and Wates, produced a unique and compliant system to seamlessly integrate with the design and mechanical requirements of this feature.

BLE also provided the solution to concerns regarding fire protection on the link bridge between JLP and St David’s Shopping Centre by designing and installing a bespoke BLE Fire Curtain to the JLP side of the bridge.
