We have manufactured and installed passive smoke and fire containment solutions for almost 40 years. Our curtains provide life-saving protection for millions of people in offices, shopping, centres, airports, railway stations, hotels, hospitals and many other public spaces around the world.
As part of the Lowe & Fletcher Group, a family owned business since 1889, we use our experience and expertise to add value for our customers worldwide.
We design and manufacture, install and service innovative, bespoke and well-engineered Smoke and Fire Curtains that provide protection, security and reassurance.
Our values are embedded in our family business ethos. They enable us to develop as a team, invent new things, and plan for the future with conviction and confidence.
The following timeline illustrates our development over the years into the market leading company that we are today:
Originally known as Simpkin Machin, our primary line of business was industrial lagging. A move into fixed curtains came in the late 80’s, followed by an inevitable expansion into automatic curtains.
Coinciding with the 1990’s boom in large retail construction, we undertook our first major smoke curtain projects, completing successful installations at the NEC Birmingham and Meadowhall Sheffield laying the foundations for future success. By 1994 our business had grown so dramatically that we were purchased by Bradley Lomas Electrolok (BLE), who supplied our control equipment.
In 2005 BLE became part of the Lowe & Fletcher Group. The Lowe & Fletcher Group is a family owned industrial business founded in 1889 as a lock manufacturer. Today the Group has two diversified divisions which design, manufacture and supply innovative security and safety products around the world.
BLE is now streamlined into two divisions – Smoke & Fire Curtains based in Holbrook, Sheffield, and Lighting & Power, based in Eckington, Sheffield. Under the guidance of the Lowe & Fletcher Group, both divisions continue to go from strength to strength, further reinforcing their positions in their respective markets.
